Kelly Smith – Producer/Editor
Kelly Smith has a BA in Communication Studies from University of California at Santa Barbara.
Kelly has decades of experience as an editor. Kelly has experience in all aspects of the editorial process including Picture, Sound, Offline Story & Online Finishing.
Kelly has provided editorial services for just about any style of production that you can think of from Commercials to Reality to Documentaries to Sizzle Reels to Daytime Talk Shows.
After 7 years working as a union editor for The Dr. Phil Show and The Doctors, which earned her 2 Emmy Nominations, Kelly returned to her first passion Wildlife Documentaries, most notably Original Programming for Shark Week. Last year Kelly was Editor & Post Producer for "Great White Serial Killer" which premiered in Discovery's Shark Week 2013. This program received the highest ratings ever for a Wednesday night program in the history of Shark Week. Kelly has just completed editorial on Air Jaws: Fin of Fury which launched Shark Week 2014 and received strong ratings. "At 8 p.m., “Air Jaws: Fin of Fury” delivered 3.298 million viewers, improving the timeslot 57% over last year’s offering"*
Kelly has produced two television series, “Outer Bounds” (39X30) and a children's series, “SeaScope” (52X05) with Jean-Michel Cousteau. “Outer Bounds” was very successful in international distribution. SeaScope was picked up by TF-1 Children’s Channel. Recently it has been re-mastered and re-released on DVD. A comprehensive teaching guide has been authored and SeaScope is now being used in schools around the world.
Kelly also has a personal connection with Kauai and Terry Lilley. She has spent time in the water documenting the reefs with Terry. And she has a home on North Shore Kauai. She is an avid snorkeler, scuba diver, stand-up paddler and underwater videographer. In Kelly’s words, “I feel like I have been training all my life in preparation for this very special project.”
